Lessons begin the day after labor day and run from September to June. The school follows the Norwalk Public Schools holiday recess calendar. There is an additional week off in May for teacher professional development. Make up days in March are reserved for students who have lessons that conflict with our Suzuki Festival in April. All students and parents are encouraged to subscribe to the studio's online calendar to stay with up to date changes and valuable information.
All students in Suzuki books 1-4 will be taking music theory lessons and/or musicianship. Students meet either once or twice a week; Once for Group Instrumental Tutoring and Once for Musicianship or Theory Tutoring. Students teamed together in both instrumental and theory will be scheduled on one day. Group Instrumental will be limited to two or three students and Group Theory will have no more than four students.
Small group settings demonstrate a higher success rate because children learn by imitation. Parents foster relationships with other parents and encourage each other in a positive environment for their children to succeed.
In addition to small groups that meet twice a week, all students at the Twinkle level and above meet for a once a month group class held on Saturday Mornings or Friday Evenings where selected pieces are performed.
Assessments and Evaluations
Students at the Advanced Level are encouraged to take examinations given annually by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. The ABRSM is an international music education body that offers assessments to candidates around the world.
